Delayed district council posting to ‘ladder roads’

The letters were supposed to have been mailed before Christmas. The District Council has admitted that it did not stick to the deadlines it gave ward councillors and has sent us this note:

The letters for the Ladder Roads consultation have now been sent down to the Council’s post room.  Due to the number of letters these will be sent out in stages over the next week. The documents will be on the Council’s website under www.stalbans.gov.uk/troconsultations  from tomorrow. The closing date for responses is 3 February.

I fail to understand why the Council are spending so much time and money on the consultations regarding the parking in the Clarence Ward ladder area. Surely we should be making more spaces for commuters and shoppers and not penalising them if we want our area to thrive. Placing restrictions in a road only mores the problem to the next and the only gain is with the council.
I have lived in Hamilton Road for 23 years and never experienced any parking issues except the odd night when Veralem School has its open days. Comes with living next to a school.
The only advantage I can see installing yellow lines would be that the kerbs currently full of fallen leaves from last Autumn and the grass debris left following the 2 times a year the council cut the grass verges may be cleared away. It this isn’t done no one will see the lines anyway. Not only will the lines cause parking issues for the residence it will also hinder visitors, service vehicles, builders, skips deliveries etc. It will also de valve the properties.
I’m feed up to the back teeth of Councillors who think they know better that the locals, our road voted 75% against restrictions but no doubt issues will be caused when other road are hit with restrictions. Please spend the money on street lighting and contractors who mow the grass regularly and properly instead of the house owners who do it for pride, clearing up as they go. Please don’t blame the above on cut backs as the council seems to be wasting its time and money on this parking consultation. As you can tell I and most of my neighbours don’t want any restricts applied to the roads

I believe all the houses in Hamilton Road have off street parking for at least one car. We are not that fortunate in Brampton and the ladder roads and many of the available spaces are filled by commuters who arrive early and leave late. Having lived here for over 30 years I remember those days when households had a maximum of one car. Alas no more. I believe the restriction will not stop people shopping or visiting but will generally improve the environment. I also recognise that you can never please everyone….
