Chris has been lobbying for some time to ensure that the pedestrian phases in the centre of town are better co-ordinated.
Both High Street and Chequer Street pedestrian lights have ‘go bits’ in them – basically encouraging pedestrians to cross when the traffic is stationary in addition to the usual phase. The effect of this is to clear waiting pedestrians so that the lights are less likely to be changed again once the traffic has started to move.
The net effect should be to ensure a freer flow or traffic AND pedestrians.
Let us now if this is not working as it should.
