The Liberal Democrats in St Albans last night called for young people to be involved in future thinking about the level of music provision in St Albans.
District councillors were considering a report originating in the City Forum, seeking to identify what opportunities there currently are for young people to attend concerts and make their own music.
Chris White, local Lib Dem spokesperson on young people, said: ‘This city has a thriving music scene but I am sure it could be better. Are there enough places in which people can mix and record? Are there enough rehearsal facilities? I can guess – but the important thing is to involve young people and ask them what they want.’
He added: ‘At a time when the new Conservative administration is reducing facilities in St Albans, as we have seen from its decision to abandon Lib Dem plans to turn the Maltings Arts Theatre into a cinema, it is all the more important that facilities for young people are protected and improved.’
Chris’s recommendation was accepted.
