Commentary: a tale of two journeys on Wednesday

I got the 1655 from Manchester Piccadilly. It left 9 minutes late and so missed the connection to St Albans at Watford Junction. £27 got me a taxi from Watford. I arrived home at 1930.

My wife left the office in Waterloo at 1715. The first available train at St Pancras (there were no longer any through trains from Blackfriars and beyond) was at 1823. It was standing room only and she arrived home at 1938.

First Capital Connect had yet again been cancelling trains all day, when other rail companies were coping with the snow. When is the Government going to take its franchise away?
