County’s failure to paint Sandpit Lane crossing slammed by councillors

Local Lib Dem councillors have been asking: how long does it take to repaint a zebra crossing?

The pedestrian crossing on Sandpit Lane by Beaumont Avenue has begun to fade away and yet the county council – despite repeated prompts from councillors – has still failed to paint it.

Anthony Rowlands, Lib Dem councillor for Ashley Ward, said: ‘I campaigned to get this crossing installed and it is appalling that it is being allowed to disappear. There are increasing reports from residents of near misses.’

Chris White, Lib Dem councillor for Clarence Ward, said: ‘I first raised this over two years ago and have been given various excuses – wrong sort of weather being the primary one. I cannot see why a simple job like this can’t be done – especially when the safety of pedestrians is so clearly at stake.

‘I have now written to the county legal department to warn them that I will testify against them if anyone is injured – or, Heaven forbid – killed as a result of their negligence.’
