District council to extend opening hours

Note from district council

St Albans City and District Council is extending its hours of opening to deal with an anticipated rise in Council Tax and benefits enquiries around Easter.

The Council is sending out Council Tax bills over the next few weeks and is expecting a seasonal increase in enquiries as a result.

In addition, we anticipate that there will be a rise in enquiries due to changes in welfare benefits that are taking place at the same time.

At a meeting on 21 March, Cabinet will hear that we are extending our normal customer service hours to meet this expected increase in demand.

We are opening the Council’s offices on selected Saturdays to handle enquiries about Council Tax, payments for rent and Council Tax, housing benefits and council tax reductions. The offices in the Civic Centre, St Peter’s Street, St Albans will be open for face-to-face enquiries on these topics from 10am to 2pm on:

  • Saturday 16 March
  • Saturday 23 March
  • Saturday 6 April.

The Council is also extending its telephone service to handle similar enquiries from 8.45am to 8pm on the following days:

  • Monday 18 March
  • Tuesday 19 March
  • Wednesday 20 March
  • Monday 25 March.

If you have a question about Council Tax, please call: 01727 819204 or 01727 819205.

If you have a question about the Council Tax reduction scheme, which is replacing Council Tax Benefit, please call 01727 819476.
